So far so good

This is my first pair of a more naturally shaped, bare foot style shoe and so far I am liking them. I have used them for 2-3 mile jogs on flat, paved roads and short walks around the block and they have felt good. I am trying to adjust my stride while jogging to avoid a heel strike and in doing so, I end up lighting my calf muscles up to the point where it takes me almost a week to recover, so I think it will take some time for my body to get used to it. I have been using them with the laces removed as it was too much of a chore to get them off and on when the laces were on them.

I have stepped on a ~1" sized crushed rock while running a time or two and it caused a fair bit of pain/discomfort as the impact point loaded/ transferred to my foot, so I am not sure if I could used them on a trail with rocky soil. And this is with the soul being quite a bit more substantial compared to other bare foot shoes according to my research.

They are definitely on the unattractive side. I guess they kind of look like an irregularly shaped skate shoe from the 90s with a light touch of some sort of 90s cross trainer.

I sought these out as they are made in the states and I have had a lot of back issues so I wanted to try a barefoot style shoe. I hope they last and continue to serve me well.

Lastly, I would like to see an improvement in the website so potential buyers like myself, that were unfamiliar with SOM, could more easily see and understand which model shoes would be most appropriate for a particular application. In my case, I wanted a breathable shoe that was good for road running and walking. Frankly, I am not sure if the pair I purchased is their best shoe for my application, but the company was away for an extended time when I placed my order, so I couldn't ask an employee for guidance while I was trying to choose which pair was the best for me.

We appreciate knowing how a newbie to barefoot-style shoes is experiencing SOMs. You are right; SOM, with its flexible 8 mm sole, is a compromise for purist barefooters who prefer 3 mm soles. The difference is significant. Take your time and allow your body to adjust to the new and more natural gait without heel elevation. The calves will adapt. Rolling them will help, for sure. Fantastic, comfortable and stylish

I have really enjoyed these shoes! I’ve been wearing them for a few months and they have been comfortable since day one. The retro reflective fabric is cool looking too. When wearing these I feel more nimble. I would definitely recommend them!
